Writer, Rehoboth Beach, DE
Greetings. I’m a humorist living and writing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. My work often draws from my life experiences — real, exaggerated, and imagined.
For 20 years, I have been writing a monthly column for Letters from CAMP Rehoboth (LGBTQ magazine for Delaware and distributed in Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA). My objective with it is simply to write something interesting and entertaining each month on whatever is top of mind. If I were forced to tag my columns, I suppose they would receive one or more of the following: humor, history, culture, politics, food and drink, cocktails, gardening, Rehoboth Beach, aging, LGTBQ, travel.
I write occasionally for Delaware Beach Life (lifestyle magazine for coastal Delaware), and I recently completed a 3-year gig writing history stories for Marinalife (travel/lifestyle magazine for the US boating community).
My short stories are very character-driven and have appeared in a variety of anthologies, most notably: Saints and Sinners: New Fiction from the Festival (2014, 2016, and 2020) by Rebel Satori Press.
National Geographic recently named the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival one of the 7 best book festivals in the world. Saints and Sinners is one of the festival’s programs, it celebrates the LGBTQ+ literary arts. Its annual short fiction contest draws entries from writers in the US and abroad. Finalist stories each year are published in a new fiction anthology. It’s an inspiring festival, and I’ve had the opportunity to meet a number of my favorite authors, including: Edmund White, Dorothy Allison, Julia Reed, and Rick Bragg.
I’ve also authored two books: The Discreet Charms of a Bourgeoise Beach Town (2012); and Fun with Dick and James (2016). Both highlight the quirkiness of life in Rehoboth Beach, a town founded by Methodists in the 19th century and now home to a vibrant gay and lesbian community and writers community — and a former US President.
